In the article, the authors consider one of the most relevant areas of Russia’s economic growth – implementation of the import substitution policy in the food market. It is noted that the measures taken by the government have shown positive results: remarkable increase in production of many types of goods that were previously scarce. Therefore, the difficulties in meeting domestic demand for many types of meat products, fish, dairy products, vegetables, etc. have been overcome. The increased domestic production of many types of food products allowed to expand their exports. At present the producers are challenged to improve the competitiveness in the domestic and foreign markets.
