Abstract

The article discusses some aspects of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the energy sector. It is shown that China’s energy strategy is underpinned by stronger investment cooperation with Russia, which is in the mutual interest. The major risks to China’s energy security are analyzed, and the role of Chinese partnership in the energy sector under anti-Russian sanctions is highlighted. It is noted that the necessary oilfield service equipment, the supplies of which were suspended due to Western sanctions, may be available on the Chinese market, and the export of oil and gas sector products, including LNG, might allow Russia to have a trade surplus in the decades ahead.
