Development of competition in the market for international carriage of goods by road in the Russian Federation

In the article, the development of intragroup and intergroup competition in the market for international carriage of goods by road in the Russian Federation is considered. The authors define the system of access to the market for cargoes of Russian and international road carriers, including on an unlicenced basis, on the basis of bilateral licences and on the basis of ECMT multilateral licences. The current level of competition in the Russian market for international road transport is estimated. The main competitiveness indicators of Russian and foreign international road carriers in the Russian market are given. The authors outline the reasons for low competitiveness of Russian road transport companies, evaluate the trends and prospects for improving the fleet of trucks involved in international carriage of goods by road. The authors provide suggestions and recommendations to improve the performance of domestic carriers, as well as the development of transport policy measures aimed at increasing the efficiency of international trade and transit of goods.
