Abstract

Free trade agreements (FTAs) are one of the most distinctive features of the modern multilateral trading system (MTS). The slow and insignificant progress in multilateral trade negotiations within the WTO has added impetus to and for FTAs of different size, both in terms of the number of participants and the scope of regulatory areas. New challenges and aggressive sanctions policy against Russia have determined the great importance of the FTAs for promoting the foreign economic interests of Russia and the EAEU in the world markets, that resulted in several negotiating tracks on the formation of a free trade regime with some of the most important partners for the EAEU. The article attempts to assess the potential of Indonesia, the largest economy of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as a trade partner of the EAEU under the FTA.
