At present, the food security is one of the key issues on the agenda of many international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Group of Twenty (G20), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC). In spite of the leading role the FAO plays in addressing the food security issues at the global level, each regional economic organization has its own experiences and approaches in addressing one of the most serious problems of humanity. In this paper the author attempts to identify the main features of the APEC that have been designed for ensuring the food security in the region. For this purpose, the following aspects were analyzed: measures that the APEC provides to achieve sustainable development of the food system in the Asia-Pacific region; mechanisms that the member countries have been implementing in ensuring the food security and in mitigating the challenges that the food system has been facing; advantages and disadvantages of the APEC approaches to food security in the Asian-Pacific region.
