Rules of origin in the negotiations on Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement

The application of rules of origin in the contemporary free trade agreements is closely related to the changing pattern of protectionism, - deepening international fragmentation of production over the past two decades has led to the fact that countries not only have to protect national producers on their own territories, but also keep and expand their presence in global value chains. Rules of origin in the negotiations on Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership are a highly important issue, as both the EU and the US have various preferential trade agreements with a number of third countries. The future provisions of the Transatlantic trade deal on rules of origin will have a great influence on the members’ trading partners, and could serve as a basis for multilateral regulations on market access.
