50 years of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

The main directions of development of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development since its creation are considered in the article. The author reviews the following principal activities of UNCTAD: promotion of international trade and economic development; international commodity problems; trade in finished and semi-finished goods; development of trade in services in developing countries; activities of regional economic groupings; methods and institutional arrangements for the implementation of measures to promote international trade. The interstate structure of UNCTAD is revealed and the role of certain units, such as Trade and Development board, is analyzed. The article highlights UNCTAD’s research activities aimed at studying the global economic processes.
