Abstract

The article considers the changes in the Vietnamese economy affecting the competitiveness of Vietnam after the accession to the world trade organization (WTO). As a result of foreign trade liberalization, its significant dependence on exports to developed and developing countries
intensified. It is shown that such dependence can have negative effects under conditions of deepening global financial crisis. The main indicators of competitiveness of Vietnamese provinces and their impact on the international competitiveness of the country are analyzed. Features of the global competitiveness of the economy of Vietnam in the period 2006-2015 are revealed. Special attention is paid to identifying those issues that still need to be addressed in order to improve the competitiveness of Vietnam.
