Abstract

The paper deals with middle class development as a typical feature of the modern world economy. Special attention is paid to the connection between labor productivity growth and middle class enlargement. The author shows the diversity of threshold value used by different international organizations for the middle class definition. Special attention is paid to the changing conditions for the middle class development in the XXI century in comparison with the previous periods. The author highlights that there are a number of problems that emerging economies have to overcome in the middle class development process. The author considers the necessity of working out and implementation of new growth patterns that will make it possible for majority of people to enter middle class stratum.
