Abstract

Participation of a country in the international technology exchange is the key characteristic of its place in the system of international economic relations at the present stage of development. China has recently joined the three traditional leaders in the R&D. The scientific authority of other
developing countries is growing. The article reviews the key indicators of the level of development of the innovative potential in the world and the leading countries with special emphasis on Russia. Special attention is paid to the state of intellectual property. The dynamics of the patent
applications is analyzed. It is stressed that Russia’s scientific potential is still underused despite the certain recent developments.
