Abstract

The article analyzes the development of infrastructure, construction and transport in modern Egypt. The authorities consider these sectors as the most important factors driving economic growth and strengthening the financial and social stability. The author examines the contribution of these industries to increasing the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Arab Republic of Egypt (ARE), as well as to expanding employment opportunities for a large part of the local population. Particular attention of the article is paid to the building of fourth-generation cities in Egypt, with an emphasis on the widespread use of “smart” technologies, especially in its New Administrative Capital (NAC). As regards the transport development, the author focuses on the railway projects and modernization of ports and maritime infrastructure, considering that about 90% of the country’s foreign trade operations depend on their condition. The implementation of infrastructure, construction and transport projects in Egypt not only boosts economic activity, but also facilitates improvement of the investment climate in the country. Cooperation with foreign companies, which has been gaining momentum in recent years, could promote both the introduction of the best international practices in implementing mega-projects and ensure their competiveness in the global and domestic markets.
