Abstract

The article deals with the evolution of the modern system of multilateral intergovernmental cooperation. The author considers conditions and particular features of development of this system. It is outlined that all major international intergovernmental organizations were founded
after World War II and refl ected the balance of power in the world of that period. The article pays attention to the fact that changes in the world economy resulted in the appearance of new types of international organizations. It is stated that the BRICS is a new format of intergovernmental
cooperation and it could play an important role in a future system of international multilateral institutions of the XXI century.
