Abstract

Technical regulations and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures are becoming internationally and particularly in the EAEU not only one of the primary trade policy instruments, but also a mechanism of pressure, that are used as measures of protectionism. The article analyzes the major barriers to trade between the EAEU countries, identifies three key trends in the introduction of restrictions, and provides suggestions for preventing technical regulation manipulation within the EAEU that could be used to exert political and other types of pressure, as well as to protect the domestic market.
