Today, it is difficult to imagine performing core logistics operations – transportation, warehousing, order and inventory management, in-transit tracking, and product returns – without the use of digital technologies. The basic digital technologies in logistics are: barcode and RFID coding of goods and packages, scanning, electronic document management (EDI – Electronic Data Interchange), satellite navigation and vehicle tracking (GPS/GLONASS), and mobile communications. These technologies significantly speed up delivery, help track goods en route, optimize cargo handling in warehouses, help avoid errors in logistics operations, and reduce time, financial, and labour resources.
