Abstract

This article critically reassesses Sassen’s global city theory amid geoeconomic fragmentation. It identifies transformative megatrends: geostrategic confrontation, ideological polycentrism, global economic disintegration, militarized international relations, dismantled production networks, and delegitimized globalization model. The scientific novelty lies in substantiating the inadequacy of the global city concept (developed during the neoliberal globalization era) and introducing the new concept of a «macro-regional city» – a nodal hub within emergent geo-economic clusters constituting a polycentric order.
