Prospects for Russia’s Non-Primary Export to China

Abstract

In the article, the author analyzes the trade cooperation between the two leading powers – Russia and China. Currently, there are a number of difficulties faced by each of the states. In particular, the author points to the imposition of sanctions (against Russia by the “collective West, which requires the strengthening of trade partnership with China; against China by Ukraine,
- sanctions on aviation equipment). At the same time, Russia’s disconnection from the SWIFT system in 2022 significantly aff ected the expansion of exports to China, and therefore new ways to bypass this system are currently being developed. The development of of non–primary exports from Russia to China seems quite promising - in particular, agricultural products and seafood are of particular interest to the Chinese consumer, and therefore the emphasis is on this area.
The author concludes that all challenging issues will be addressed in the next few years, and trade cooperation between Russia and China will only expand.
