For Russia, which is under pressure from the sanctions and Western attempts to isolate it in international arena, BRICS based on the principles of pluralistic democracy and equality is of great importance. As a member of the informal Global South alliance, Russia has the opportunity to conduct an active political dialogue, as well as pursue the implementation of its strategic goals aimed at ensuring national and energy security. In addition, within the framework of BRICS, Russia not only receives the support of the allies interested in cooperation beyond politics, but also fully participates in joint projects, developments and the implementation of goals aimed at sustainable growth and prosperity of BRICS.
As new members join the organization, its importance in the global economy is also increasing, which entails a gradual transformation of the global monetary system and the foundation for a multipolar world. At the heart of these ambitious plans is the need to reduce dependence on the West and the critical importance of expanding cooperation and partnerships with other countries in the energy and mineral resources sector.
This article examines the key aspects of the creation and development of the BRICS international association and the changes that have occurred within the bloc since its enlargement in 2024; Russia’s interests and prospects for cooperation with the countries of the association are considered. To assess the increased role of BRICS in the global economy, a comparative analysis of the key economic indicators of the bloc and the G7 forum is carried out. To judge the complementarity of the new BRICS members, their economic and commodity features, expected benefits of joining and potentially effective areas of cooperation within the organization are studied. Thus, the article reveals the expected role of each new member and its contribution to promoting and facilitating the development of the BRICS energy markets.
