ASEAN Economics in Conditions of World Economy Fragmentation: Modern Trends and Potential of Cooperation with Russia

Abstract

This research paper covers the economy of the ASEAN countries in the context of global economic fragmentation, considering modern trends and the potential for developing cooperation with Russia. With the recent global trends, an assessment of the current macroeconomic situation of 10 ASEAN countries is given, a comparative analysis of foreign trade cooperation of the economies of the association with leading trading partners is carried out, and Russia’s place among them is determined. Investing activities of the world’s leading countries in the region are analyzed, in particular in China and the United States. Their role in the context of ASEAN countries is studied separately, taking into account the interests of each party. The findings of the research provide suggestions on structuring Russia’s position in the region, outline the most significant areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, including natural resources extraction, agro-industrial complex, nuclear energy, and higher education services for training technical specialists.
