Abstract

The article examines the impact of special economic measures adopted by the Russian government in 2014, and which are still in force, on the activities of customs authorities. New tasks assigned to the customs authorities after the introduction of special economic measures are defined. Th ese tasks are aimed at ensuring the customs authorities’ compliance with the requirements arising from the special economic measures. In addition, the article considers the results of control activities of the mobile groups for 2017-2021. Since their establishment, the mobile groups have managed to stop many violations related to the illegal import of prohibited items into the territory of the Russian Federation, that proves effectiveness of such mobile groups. The article also identifies the positive and negative changes that have occurred in the activities of the customs authorities. The main ways to improve the effectiveness of countering the illegal import of prohibited goods are outlined.
