Abstract

Shale gas is one of the new unconventional sources of energy. The production of shale gas began in the USA approximately 10 years ago and allowed the country to become the largest natural gas producer in the world. In the article the reasons for so great success, technology, benefits and risks of shale gas production, prospects of the development and probable influence on the future global gas market are analysed.
