Abstract

The article considers significant changes in the global energy market in 2011 - 2017 against the backdrop of the so-called «shale revolution». The problems associated with the influence of the shale revolution on the development of the global coal market and international trade in this commodity are touched upon. There is a marked increase in the role of developing countries in international coal trade and the role of the PRC and India in the development of the global coal market in this period. The article contains an analysis of the main features and trends in the movement of world prices for energy resources in general, and coal in particular, which took shape in these years. The influence of the shale boom on the structure and dynamics of coal exports from Russia is shown; technological changes in the development of the coal industry of the country are marked; prospects for the development of Russian coal exports are outlined. The article highlights the importance of Russia’s accelerated transition to the use of new innovative technologies in the production of coal as a significant factor in the development of Russian exports.
