Abstract

Today Russia has a difficult, even tense economic, trade and political cooperation with a number of its business partners, primarily the USA and the EU. The deterioration of business cooperation has prompted the government to accelerate implementation of the program of import substitution in strategically important areas of the economy, including the pharmaceutical market. Nowadays the dependence on imported medicines from foreign countries is very high. The government takes measures to stimulate domestic producers, create innovative medicines, invest in its production capacity, move to a new innovative way of development, etc. However, a strong will and the opportunity cannot immediately change the current situation on the pharmaceutical market. It takes years, a lot of work and efforts of all market participants: the government, producers,
investors, distributors and consumers. The article reveals the difficulties that the government encountered in implementing the program of import substitution of drugs in the country at the moment.
