Russia as an Exporter of Machinery and Equipment

The article examines the role of Russia in the global market for machinery and equipment. Estimates of revealed comparative advantage index for the main groups of machinery and equipment under the WTO and UN classifications are provided. The types of mechanical engineering products, in which Russia has a specialization, are singled out. The commodity and geographical structure of Russian exports of machinery and equipment is analyzed. The impact of sanctions imposed in 2022 on the opportunities to expand Russia’s exports of mechanical engineering products is considered. The factors hindering the development of its own production base are identified. Recommendations to strengthen Russia’s role as an exporter of machinery and equipment are proposed.
