Some questions of U.S. - Russia cooperation in the FATF

Abstract

The article considers some aspects of cooperation between Russia and the United States in the FATF, which Russia joined in 2003. The United States is a member of the FATF; U.S. financial institutions have initiated creation of the organization. Russia and the United States have a number of common positions on FATF issues concerning money laundering and combating terrorism. However, as the U.S. weight within the FATF is quite considerable, FATF documents can affect Russia’s national interests in case these documents have impact on Russia’s partner countries.
