Abstract

Trade disputes on animal and plant products between Russia and the EU will be determined in the medium term by the outcome of the dispute resolution to the Russian ban on imports of pork products from the EU dealt with by the WTO Dispute Settlement Body. At the moment, it is advantageous for the EU to focus on the resolution to the case of March 2014 in respect of the Russian ban on imports of live pigs and pork products from the EU, which is under number DS 475 on the list of trade disputes based on the substantive provisions of the WTO Agreement on
the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures. The outcomes of the case might change the existing Russia’s regulatory framework governing imports of animal goods.
