Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the measures of the European Union aimed at improving the protection of intellectual property rights with the purpose of achieving better results in the sphere of scientific and technical progress in member-countries to strengthen their international competitiveness. The article examines the reasons for the increasing attention in the European Union to the protection of these rights and main directions of respective activities in the EU: unifying national norms of protection, modernizing patenting system and preventing delivery of counterfeit goods from third countries, especially from China. In conclusion, special emphasis is made on compliance of intellectual property rights protection in the European Union with the requirements of WTO Agreement on trade related aspects of intellectual property rights and on certain practical issues in this respect for Russia.
