Medium-term prospects for Russia & CIS trade and economic cooperation

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the medium-term prospects for foreign trade of Russia with the CIS countries. Mutual trade is projected to decline, first of all, due to the economic destabilization in Ukraine and exacerbation of Russia-Ukraine relations. Special attention is drawn to the deteriorating global economic conditions of the medium-term economic growth in Russia and CIS countries as a factor adversely affecting the mutual foreign economic relations. The author concludes that it is essential to accelerate the development of the Russian economy, to increase the attractiveness of Russia as a trading partner, to implement well thought-out and coordinated structural reorganization and technological modernization of the national economies of Russia and interested CIS countries.
