Abstract

In the article, the author analyzes briefly the history of international relations and international law in the context of stages in the development of international law using the theory and philosophy of civilization approach. On this basis the periodization of international law accepted by the Russian international legal doctrine is critically interpreted. The author expresses his subjective assessment of the role of the western civilization in the World order, and also of the common part of international law as creation of the West. The author suggests his own version of periodization of international law; he views Russia as « civilization-state» - with its hierarchy of values; he believes that Russia should unite all main non-west civilizational centres to create an alternative international law system.
